That is so weird! That shop you pictured looks almost exactly like a shop along Highway 97 between Omak and Wenatchee. Even has the same looking parking lot. Sign is different but in exact same place.

Thanks for the mention Michael.

I think Mermaid's Menagerie used to be a farmer's market (based on the ruins of the greenhouse) and she's made it into a store for unique and antique goods. Ironically, that's the anti-trend because that stretch of highway used to have 4 or 5 antique stores and now it has just two, including this place. A failed restaurant became a power-washing place, and others became office/shop type buildings for various businesses.

I also had a friend who used the mermaid as part of her band's logo (she passed away from breast cancer at age 41 several years ago) so that sign has additional meaning to me.

And by the way, as predicted she did change the sign out a few days ago. It's now something along the lines of a mermaid doesn't pay attention to the opinions of shrimp. On the other side it's about what makes you different makes you beautiful.

Sorry about your friend. Ahh the cancer industry! Listening to Canadian radio once, doctor states they had a treatment for breast cancer 99% effective! The interviewer asked if that is how they treated everyone now. She responded NO, WE ONLY USE IT AS A LAST RESORT!

There is a restaurant in PA that puts neat stuff on their signs also. My wife sees it in her social feed.

Onward and upward Michael!

I appreciate your reading through it. Seems like the more things change, the more they stay the same.

How did you compile all that data? Seems to me I could make the same argument for Delaware, which has been a Democrat trifecta since 2009. (I live in the rural, Republican part of the state.)

I get all of my data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. I then crunch the data to make these reports--you can see Delaware's rankings https://www.opportunityohio.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/RTW202407.pdf (bottom half), https://www.opportunityohio.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/OWFR202407.pdf & https://www.opportunityohio.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/WuhanImpact52.pdf (middle of the road). I update these monthly and post at www.opportunityohio.org. Here is DE data if you want to see it for all industries over time: https://www.bls.gov/regions/mid-atlantic/delaware.htm#eag

Looks like a fun little research project since it's a gubernatorial election year here.
