I agree, Michael. Newt calls ‘em as he sees ‘em. He’s a historian, and a darn good one. Donald Trump’s history will be written many different ways. Most of academia will not have the clear discernment that Newt has.
Trump is certainly a standout among the Presidents.
Regarding FDR and other Democrat Presidents regarding dependence:
“As long as we look to legislation to cure poverty or to abolish special privilege we are going to see poverty and special privilege grow.”
― Henry Ford, My Life And Work
This dependency thing even happens among animals. A friend was late one day filling her bird feeders. I swear that the birds were actually GLARING at her!
I agree it is going to be a LONG haul turning America around again!
When I hear Newt’s name, I can’t get his greatest hit out of my head.
In case anyone needs a refresher:
For decades, this guy held himself out as an uber-Catholic who was going to take America back for the “moral majority.”
Mid-take-back, he leaves his wife (who is sick with cancer) for an affair - with a staffer.
It gets better.
He proceeds to try another man for having an affair - during his affair. Never once worrying the truth would come out. He was confident his “moral majority” colleagues would cover for him - and they did.
Then, as the cherry on top, he had his mistress diplomatically appointed to the Vatican.
Seriously.
So, I guess I’m curious how he keeps turning up like a bad penny. How can anyone hold him out as someone to listen to - on any subject?
I just can’t, but I appreciate all the effort you put in it. 🍀
Luckily I'm looking at Newt as a political figure and not a perfect person. He turns up "like a bad penny" in my inbox on a regular basis because I like his political philosophy, as I noted right up front. So I'm on his mailing list.
Besides, if having an affair was a disqualifier for political office, we'd have a hard time filling them up.
