Tuesday evening reading - November 19, 2024
More goodies from the stack of stuff I read on a daily basis here on Substack.

The success of this concept last time stoked my sharing flame because I subscribe to a lot of good reading, and come across even more from my following. So when I get to between six and eight posts (or so) I think are worth sharing, you’ll get Tuesday evening reading. It won’t be every week, but likely about once or twice a month. There’s nothing wrong with link love!
So here goes. Read them first then come back and see what I have to say with it.
Do you remember the Metaverse? Well, I’m glad somebody like
does.In just three years, we’ve gone from virtual reality to artificial intelligence, which is getting dumber by the second. I get that people want to escape and want to be lazy, but this is why we are where we are - spoken like the guy who spent his freshman year in college living in a video arcade playing Galaga. But I walked out and eventually went to class, and I think Americans got a dose of reality two weeks ago, thank goodness.
Speaking of which, my close cohorts in Gen X (I was born three months early to be considered part of that crowd, although I identify with it more) saved the election according to
.I was raised on well water, but no matter. I was a latchkey kid from the time I was 14 or so, thus I get the idea. If you want to double up on Dana, this additional election analysis is behind her paywall.
Republicans need to maintain the coalition created to leverage victory. They need to move with such speech to slash spending, reduce the size and scope of government, and overhaul the destructive bureaucratic regime that the bureaucrats can’t move to stop them. I don’t care if it’s hard, or if a move is endlessly litigated, I don’t care. Do it. I don’t care if the press squawks. Do it. There are no excuses this time. Do it.
Yes, rightsize government, louder so those in the back can hear it! Start here with the
.While they are all good I like #3 (repealing the subsidies for solar and wind) and #7 (halting offshore wind) the best. I think old Elon and Vivek could have a field day DOGE-ing that department.
I’m going to have two daily doubles before I go - after all, when the choices are good why not have both?
This one by
talks about a continuing need and someone who is diligently working to address it.Speaking of diligently addressing something, I wish Charles luck with this one as he fights the battle of the bulge, too. I think he’s spot on about Little Debbie because it takes a lot of willpower for me to pass up Nutty Bars. Is there ever a better combination of chocolate, peanut butter, and crunch than that?
Finally, here are a couple from
, who writes The Stone Age. I’m going to start with the scary one first. It almost seems unfair to transition from that to the idea of the “plug and play” kitchen, but what can I say? The dude is a versatile (and good) writer. Puts me to shame because I can’t write fiction for the life of me. (Notice there is the word “fiction” in there.)
The Stone Age may be the next paid subscription I get - when I get one here.
All that should keep a good reader going and thinking for awhile. Now I’ll keep collecting for next time.
In the meantime, though, you can Buy Me a Coffee, since I have a page there now.
Thanks Michael for the mentions!
Great reads !
