We have an election coming up in Delaware in 2024, and at stake will be several statewide offices, including governor and lieutenant governor.

Prior to 2017, the law in Delaware was such that abortion was only allowed in cases of rape, incest, or the life of the mother being at stake. To borrow a phrase from the Democrats of yesteryear, abortion was “safe, legal, and rare.”

Fast forward to today, and there’s been a stunning but not surprising change in the Democrat Party playbook here in Delaware thanks to the Dobbs decision. Practically everyone from LBR on down has made abortion one of their top issues, even though state law is reasonably settled and, barring a massive conservative GOP sweep, will stay that way. (Sadly.)

It’s in the opening paragraph of LBR’s website: “when people’s right to…control their own bodies is protected, there is less fear in the world.”

For those looking to replace her, it’s a priority, too: Eugene Young has “Protect Reproductive Rights” third on his batting order of issues, Colleen Davis ends her elevator pitch by saying, “no one should take away a woman’s right to make her own medical decisions,” and Tim Sarah McBride wraps up the issues portion of the website saying, “Just as she has done in Delaware, Sarah will push to enshrine the right to choose into federal law and ensure true access to reproductive health care.”
