“Deny,” “depose,” and “defend.” These were the words allegedly etched onto the bullet casings when UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson was murdered in cold blood earlier this month. However, the AP story I link to notes that’s more of a mimicry of words supposedly used by the health insurance industry regarding claims: “delay, deny, defend.”
Normally this wouldn’t have really come up on my radar screen; it’s not like I love the health insurance industry, but I see it as a necessary evil in this day and age and haven’t quite pulled the trigger on considering MediShare. But then I got an e-mail the other day from our old pains in the rectum at Indivisible that said this as part of its upcoming strategy:
Defend, defeat, and delay nationally. Trump has a minuscule majority and a deeply unpopular agenda. For the next two years, we’ve been forced into a defensive posture, responding to the agenda MAGA puts forward. That does not mean we have to accept that agenda. We won’t stop everything but we can stop some things, and we can delay things we can’t stop -- using up valuable time they have to do harm. That means peeling off Republicans where we can and stiffening the spines of Democrats to fight back. This demands both entrepreneurial and rapidly reactive work nationwide across blue, red, and purple geographies.
Again, a slightly different wording, but I’m sure they were aware of the impact that particular alliteration would carry. Moreover, wouldn’t “defeat” have the same effect as “deny”? Somehow I doubt this missive, had it been written a couple weeks earlier, would have had that choice of phrase.
I’m sure they won’t say this publicly, but these are the sort of people who make heroes out of the coward who shot a defenseless person walking down the street in the back only because the target was a healthcare company CEO. That should disqualify them from the national conversation.
If anyone needs spines stiffened, it’s those Republicans who are a bit squishy about the DOGE, pro-America agenda. As you’ll notice, I was a little bit in-your-face to my newly minted Senator LBR because she preached bipartisanship in her campaign - and still is, saying Wednesday:
I was grateful for the opportunity to share how I plan to work with U.S. Senator Chris Coons and Sarah McBride to represent Delawareans as a delegation.
I'll continue to work with all of my colleagues to find bipartisan solutions to our most pressing challenges.
Well, Miss Lisa, looks like I better be seeing a lot of “yes” votes when those Trump appointees come along. We need to make the DOGE train an unstoppable force for rightsizing government. (Why? See the cartoon above.)
Remember, despite having a President from our own state, Delaware was the only state in recession last year. * Perhaps instead of bragging how many crumbs he can get us off the federal table, Chris Coons can get his nose out of the Bidens’ rear end and get with the program. (I hold out less hope for our Squad wannabe, Tim Sarah McBride.) They are both up in 2026, so it’s time for two good Republicans (a guy against Coons and a real woman against McBride) to step up and get us moving.
The only defeating I want to see is that of the far-left Swamp fever dream agenda. Donald Trump, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Elon Musk can’t rightsize government quickly enough for me.
Programming note: since Christmas is on a Wednesday and I have traditionally kept my sites dark for that holiday, I’ll repost a Christmas blast from the past on Tuesday. I’ll be back regular with another edition of odds and ends next Saturday that may have a little bit of TER therein.
Until next time, don’t just remember you can Buy Me a Coffee since I have a page there - be aware I’m having a sale on paid subscriptions for a limited time of just a few more days. Just follow this link for 50% off!
*Per the Bureau of Labor Statistics: “In 2023, real GDP for the nation grew at an annual rate of 2.5 percent, with the percent change ranging from 5.9 percent in North Dakota to –1.2 percent in Delaware.”
You can tell when you're over the target - the flack gets worse. I always live by that phrase, and have yet to be let down. We need to squash any reluctance on Republican's part to support Trump, and we need to run good folks against all Democrats. The only way we drain the swamp is to get rid of ALL the swampers, not just their leaders.
Great article. Love your work.
The one trait Marxist have that so called Republicans don't. THEY NEVER GIVE UP! With the Presidency, and a majority in House and Senate, THEY WERE STILL DOING THE BIDDING OF DEMORATS IN THE CR bill!
Merry Christmas to you and your family Michael. Let's pray for an outstanding New Year.
